In the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth.
the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
(You) formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength.
having armed yourself with strength.
Psalm 65:6 (read 65:1-13) - NIV
Creation is the only book written by God. All other
books are printed by humans. Our science indicates that the first chapter of
God´s book as we know it began to be written about 20 billion years ago with
the "big bang". The Earth chapter began to be written about 4.5
billion years ago. Earth existed without the presence of humans during 4,496,000,000
years. Writing appeared only 6,000 years ago.
During most of human development creation (nature) was
the only "book" that people had to read. Its words were: day, night,
lunar cycles, seasons, warmth, cold, rain, drought, wind, thunder, birth,
death, wildlife, plants, mountains, forests, deserts, abundance, famine,
pestilence, disease, etc... They were the sacred words and could be read by
everyone.
The written word came with the dawn of western
"civilization" along with the building of temples to serve as the
divine abode. Documents which were written by human hands and within sacred
environments built by men came to be revered as “revelation”. Civilized people started
to distrust nature and to rely on the scriptures that they themselves composed.
The reason is clear: nature has its own personality and is capricious,
unpredictable and disrespectful. But paper is friendly and accepts anything
written on it. Thus it reflects our desires and pleases us. In our idolatry we
worship our own words as though they were divine. We can read the words of the
written page, but we are illiterate before the Great Book which was actually
written by the divine hand.
Every moment God writes new lines. Each heartbeat is a
new sentence. Each blink of an eye can bring new revelations. The psalmist
looked at the mountains and the ocean waves with awe and wonder! He read the
rain that enables the growing of abundant crops. He realized that God's hand sustains
and guides all existence. He rejoiced in the existence of humanity which is
also part of the wonder of all being. This revelation of nature made him shout
and sing for joy.
In contrast, "civilized" humanity sees
itself as the owner of the Earth. It sees immediate advantages instead of
beauty. The results are felled trees, burned forests, natural resources
plundered, poisoned air, water and soil, thousands of fauna and flora species
extinct with the world becoming a giant deposit of plastic and toxic waste with
a large part of humanity groaning in pain. Daily It is ripping out pages of the
book that God wrote.
Our books of paper, written by human hands, are used
to promote hatred, prejudice and violence. The descendants of the authors of
the Bible (Jewish and Christian) and the Qur'an use their scriptures to put God
in a cage and turn people against one another.
We need to return to the True Book of God to find the
words of life. Our salvation is to live in love and harmony with the Creator
and all of creation. We are all are part of this universe and have our place
under the sun. Love gives freely to everyone.
PSALM 65 – NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (NIV)
Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our
vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all
people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave
our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring
near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy
temple.
You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our
Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the
farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed
yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring
of their waves,
and the
turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where
morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call
forth songs of joy.
You care for the land and water it;
you enrich
it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide
the people with grain,
for so you
have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften
it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your
carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills
are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
and the
valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.
